Tolstoy and the green branch
Tolstoy felt that in the deep
greenery of Yasnya Polyanna, somewhere far away in the valleys there is always
a green branch—buried in the depth of earth—and that branch bears bunches of
glorious letters.
Tolstoy saw those letters and that branch made his writings
really glorious. He was a divine artist. Others however, wander far, in the
wilderness of the mind, obsessed, in search of that green branch.
