The scrolls which preserve the script
in the dear old handwriting of the past
were written in the scarlet red.
The quill at the end of the pens still has the stains
of the red ink sticking to them.
The words were willed
to take their forms and shapes
in the cauldron of passion.
Then came the time
when the scrolls were rolled up and sealed,
the madness quelled,
it's time to calm, soothe,
settle, quieten, put at rest,
lull, silence, put behind one,
rise above, allay, appease, stay,
assuage, abate, deaden, and dull,
tranquilize, mitigate, moderate, and play
with the light and the shadows
in the clear light of the day.
The madness that brought the scroll
is still a thing to marvel at and wonder
how the quietude still has the reflected glow.

Only those things are beautiful
which are inspired by madness
and written by reason...

REMEMBRANCE

On that day
when the rain had stopped and the sun was blessing the earth
like your love did both of us,
you held our hands
as we skated, floated through the fog,
I turned around to see
how far we had traveled in the rain.
But that was no concern to you, Dad;
you were determined to give us our lessons in skating,
no matter the sun or the rain.
You and my brother thought alike.
Neither a beginning nor an end,
our daily rounds were what we loved.
After many years, I come back,
not a new beginning
but resuming, the lost threads again...
And you too Dad,
would surely visit again.

Thank you for the inspiration +Anna del Valle Martí

A rhizome has no beginning or end; it is always in the middle, between things, interbeing, intermezzo. The tree is filiation, but the rhizome is alliance uniquely alliance. The tree imposes the verb “to be,” but the fabric of the rhizome is the conjunction, “and...and...and...” This conjunction carries enough force to shake and uproot the verb “to be.” Where are you going? Where are you coming from? What are you heading for? These are totally useless questions. Making a clean slate, starting or beginning again from ground zero, seeking a beginning or a foundation—all imply a false conception of voyage and movement (a conception that is methodical, pedagogical, initiatory, symbolic...). But Kleist, Lenz and Büchner have another way of traveling and moving: proceeding from the middle, through the middle, coming and going rather than starting and finishing.

The shaft of sunlight broke
and the splinters flew all around.
Some were taken by the waves
 and they became boats
for sailors in lonely faraway lands;
some were taken by the gales
and they became stars,
laughing, twinkling
in sardonic smiles
at the ironies of fate that rocked the man.

Some were taken by the sirens lying in wait
and they used them as snares
to cast their nets
to collect some Apollo from up the tall mast
riding the crest of a giant wave.

And some were found lying in the sand
luminous, unending streams of light.
Some saturnine soul wandering forlorn
on a night when no moon shone
was hit hard by one and stopped.
One by one he picked them all
and assiduously built
in that single night
a lighthouse standing firm on a rock.

SILENCE AND THE WATER-LILIES

when silence blooms
like a water lily
the mirror speaks,
the wind steps in
delicately
silence speaks
with lucidity.

Silence....

Saturday 11 May 2019

 The lamplight glow,
your body, a candle,
a sudden turn.
You shaded your eyes,
shaded the glow.
The twilight brought
a reverberation.
A flight of gulls,
the canopy flew.
You were exposed.
The sunbeam touched
your shoulder and scattered
in thousands of crystals
and your lips touched my arm,
lightly.
The light was the keynote on that day
and the sunbeams tossed the gold
into the heart of the sea.
