When It Rains

 When It Rains

You never know why the sky turns grey
and why the clouds come without a warning,
suddenly like this on a sunny morning.
There are winds of change that tell you how it rains
without a warning just to say,
that this is the storm before a calm.
The water is running in streams, and they are flowing over,
and they are deep. Deep is the water and it is deep everywhere.
Deep is the longing which the heart does not know.

Caught up in the maze of the ways of this world
I would never have seen this patch of green
if it were not for this untimely rain.
I reached the heart of this little green wood that grew
hidden from the sight of the speeding world.
I swayed with the trees and listened to their sighs and sighed with them
and never knew when
the sadness went down deep in my heart.

I took the flagrant wood into my heart,
and wore the flame like a crown.

I cannot put out the fire now,
because it was kindled by the will of God..

My little sea-gull, I hear you singing in my heart;
I know, this is not your home;
I know, I must let you go,
let you go to the sea where you long to go.

There, I. let you fly.
with the hope you will come,
come back whenever your wings will need
 the warmth of my heart, here on the shore.
