One day standing on the familiar ground
the bird of blue feathers looked around
The layer of the soil got raised high.
The treetops swayed close by
.The pines and the oaks on the hillsides
were sinking low before the bird's eye.
The bird was poised on a carpet of soil
unconnected with the forest around.
A seed of a sunflower lying dormant for ages
had grown overnight into a giant flower.
It spoke to the bird in familiar tones.
"Recall the day in the long-lost past
when you spotted me lying on the ground;
picked me up and carried me around,
and somewhere along the days of the flight
you lost me and I lay again on the ground;
how long, I have lost the count.
The laws of Nature are inscrutable
and the causes sometimes work too slow.
After a slumber of ages the sun shone on me.
The speed of the growth from the seed to the sprout
was quickened overnight and here I am standing by you.
I, with a giant magnificent root, am close to the sun
and will be closer still. I shall cast thousands of seeds to grow
before the sun sets on me again tonight.
