This woman claimed Lemuria came first: a vast continent in the Pacific that served as the birthplace of the Third "Root Race." These weren't modern humans. She described them as androgynous, psychic beings that reproduced by laying eggs before biological sex, as we know it, even existed.
According to 19th-century occultist Helena Blavatsky, Atlantis wasn't humanity's beginning. It was the aftermath.
Her cosmology divided human evolution into seven "Root Races." The First and Second were non-physical, existing as spiritual entities. The Third, the Lemurians, gradually became physical and eventually split into male and female forms. Only after this transition did the Fourth Root Race, the Atlanteans, emerge.
Blavatsky portrayed Atlantis as an extraordinarily advanced civilization with powerful psychic abilities and sophisticated knowledge.
But she argued that its rulers became corrupt, misused those abilities, and triggered a cataclysm that destroyed the continent roughly 11,500 years ago.
